It is recommended that vitamin and mineral supplements are taken after an evening meal as this is when your body is in repair mode and when it most needs those vitamins and mineral supplements. The evening meal also tends to be the largest meal of the day and taking supplements on a full stomach can help ensure maximum absorption.
It is best to swallow vitamins and supplements with water. Tea and coffee can effect absorption and if taking probiotics heat may harm the live micro organisms. Don't take grapefruit juice with your vitamins and supplements. It has been found with prescribed medication that grapefruit juice can increase the concentration of certain drugs in the blood. Although the effect of grapefruit juice on vitamins and mineral supplements has not been fully investigated current advice is to not take both together.
Always consult your GP before taking any vitamins or supplements especially if you are on medication or under medical supervision.
Similarly, if you are pregnant or breast feeding please consult your GP before taking any vitamins or supplements.
